Flashback: The year 2011 for me

2011 is about to bid farewell to us in 3 days and I want to recount what I had done and what was happening around me this year. I wanted to start from January, but it seems I can hardly remember anything remarkable about the first three months, or maybe I didnt ponder much on the memories prior to my birthday (2nd April).

I would like to...

If it would be possible to go back in time and change something in your life related to your academic achievement, something that you now regret for not undertaking that course of life, then what it would be?

For me that would be looking to the point of time when I took science after passing the tenth. I was a good student at that time, as was reflected from my marks in the ICSE board results, the 94.57% aggregate percentage. I was particularly good at English, Hindi and Science subjects. I have not been a Maths fanatic like most of my studious friends used to be. I was more prone towards Literary concerns, be it any of the two languages I knew. That point of time refers to the time when I took admissions at Delhi Public School, Dhanbad. Had I been able to now decide which school to select, I would rather not change my school, to which I was much acquainted and had a great attachment with.

Into that same environment, I would work very hard and really hard to crack the IIT-JEE and with a rank good enough to place myself into the top seven IITs with the the circuit branches-the electrical, the electronics, and the computer science and related. When I visited IIT Kharagpur in my second year at NIT Jamshedpur, I realised what I missed not cracking the JEE. I felt like when I shall have a child of my own and when he shall wish to take Engineering as his career, I shall make him visit the IITs and NITs and make him realise the difference in order that it works as a motivation for him in his preparation for the JEE.

Now that I am in NIT Jamshedpur with Electrical Engineering as my branch, I feel contented to have atleast a branch of my choice. I need to work hard to realize my dream and not repeat such mistakes that I later regret connecting to when I look back to the past of mine.

Since the time, I have been here at NIT, I have made a mind to improve in those interests and fields that I am weak at and as a result of that this blog has come into picture where I intend to post something I feel like almost on a daily basis. Next, I have decided to analyze more deeply on the current states of affairs in the world and India and post my opinion on them onto this post.

And I have a dream...

Of late, I have wondered why some persons succeed while the others are left behind, though this person had almost negligible resources as compared to others. The opinion which I have finally build upon after much speculation is that our brain is divided into three parts:
  1. the part that controls our language
  2. the reasoning part, and
  3. the part that believes.

The first part is the most active in all human beings. It is this part that decides what we want to do, say, watch, read, etc. The second part is also used by most of us. This part gives us reasoning power which helps us figure out why we want to do something. It is the third part that makes all the difference-the part that believes, that dreams. Often, we feel ourselves saying, "I don't know how I did it" or "I can't just say what I want to." It is this part which gives us the ability to dream, to have faith in something. Most people who become great personalities is because they dreamt.
Father of our Nation

Steve Jobs
As for instance, Gandhiji, father of our nation, believed in his right to freedom. The people joined him in the independence movement just because they connected with his belief. The third part of our brain is the most independent and has been active even when we didn't know how to speak. This is the part that makes a lasting connection between people. This applies equally to the case of organizations. Apple was successful in connections with the people with what they believed. Today, when a computer company like HP brought out its tablets to the market, it didn't find any place with the consumers. This is because consumers feel HP is a company related to computer and printers. They are new at making tablets. This is how the brand HP or any other such brands like Dell, etc. have projected themselves to the people. However, the case with Apple is completely different. Apple was originally a computer company. It launched iPod and then iPhone and later iPad. These all were products and they attracted millions of people awaiting even before their launch. This was because Apple had a belief and instead to conveying to people what they were making, they conveyed what they believed. And this way the belief of people fall in resonance with that of the company. The belief was to innovate, to make consumer electronics more and more personal and useful. That is why people remember and will continue to remember Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple because his beliefs connected with that of the people.
That's me, on path to my dream

Since 12th standard, I have been having a dream to manage a company that is related to electronics and chip-designing industry, somewhat like Intel Semiconductors. This dream has led me take engineering as my bachelors and I want to do masters in business. I have interest in electronics, technology as well as marketing, advertising and branding. I have to work a long path to achieve my dream. But it is this dream that motivates me to learn more and to do something new each day. I have got a sidetrack liking to creative writing and blogging. And I have to work upon my communication skills, and analyzing skills. But most of all I need to connect to people around me, specially connect to the third part of people's brains. During this learning journey which I have embarked upon I shall continue to share with you everything that I gain and feel worth sharing.

So this post will continue to flood with posts related to the above interests and likings of mine.

In what ways do I stand out?

Today, I have decided to introspect myself. Basically, continually hammer this mind of mine with the above question, as to how do I stand out. Well, lets start.

If you visit my Facebook profile, then visit my notes section over there you'll find that I have written more than 38 notes over there. More of them are poetry, mostly comedy and romantic, while there are pieces and comics to make you laugh. My friends say that I am a creative guy. For most of their feelings towards me, the comments by them are self-explanatory.

I am a tech enthusiast. When I was in eighth standard, my papa gifted me a desktop; for I had a keen interest in computing. When I was in ninth, I had learned Advanced Java, could make interactive applets. I had got the material for Advanced Java from my computer teacher, Ms. Rashmi Bannerjee. She and my friends were very much impressed when I designed a simple yet interactive applet on the school computer and showed it to them. I was a student of an ICSE school, then. I had decided to find a career in computing.

I was much interested in biology as a subject, and at tenth I had decided to take it as my subject. I got my school changed after tenth, because of my mom's wish and also because of the fact that the science section of the new school was better at least as people used to tell. But at the new school, I could take both Biology and Computer Science together. Then I had to resort to Computer Science. This computer subject was always treated as an extra subject in this school, much like the  Sanskrit, Physical Education, etc.

I had got to prepare for the IITs and this required less attention to Computer Science. Hence, as my computer science teacher used to say, "You haven't learnt anything new in this college, whatever you score is from your previous knowledge." He was true and I had to stand guilty in front of him, but I was happy as I could score more than 80s. Somehow my first terminal marks had made my teacher expect higher from me. But I had to crack IIT.

I liked maths. But not as much as Bio or Comp. Sc. I got admission at NIT Jamshedpur through AIEEE. In standard 12th I had decided to pursue my future study in electronics, mainly in VLSI chip designing. I had build a dream to see myself in a company like Intel Semiconductors. I used to take much interest in circuit designing. At time of counseling, I thought Electrical and Electronics(EEE) will be better for me as compared to Electronics and Communication(ECE). When I got admission into this college, I found out that EEE was more of the electrical, while ECE was more of electronics. Had I known this before I would have chosen ECE.

It happened that I went back to my old favorite, Computing. Many of my friends comment that I should be in CS branch, as I knew much about computing than most of my friends.

When I used to design electronic circuits and show them to my friends, many of them tell that I should be in the branch of ECE.

As it turns out that I am in a branch of EEE, I tried hard to build my interest in the subjects of Machine and Power Systems and I am even now trying it. I had developed a liking to blogging and these are the interest of mine.

Often I have found myself lost in the conundrum of which side I should take. As one of my new acquaintances had once secretly commented to me that I was a nice guy, and I thought he was serious enough; I liked being thought so. This new acquaintance was probably the first person at college that I disliked. This was just because he was a bit pompous, always showing off his knowledge.

These are the things that have made be stand out all these years. As I wrote this blog, I found many remembrances flooding in front of my eyes, but since I want to keep my posts small and simple, I have not put them into words over here. OMG, I have got to share a lot with you all in the upcoming posts of mine.

Stay hungry, Stay foolish

"We are at the very beginning of time for the human race. Our responsibility is do what we can, learn what we can, improve the solutions and pass them on.”
                                                                                                  --Richard Feymann
With this thought, I want to say that we're meant to learn as much as we can, keep on learning as though we are yet foolish and also share the knowledge with the world. This blog will turn into a repository of my learning from this day onwards. Whatever I shall feel worth sharing will be done through this blog of mine.

As Steve Jobs, who has just passed away, signed off with the words, "Stay hungry, Stay foolish", and so this blog is meant to keep myself in track of whatever I have learned and shared with the world.

Overview of This Blog

Now that I have decided to write something each and every day, I need to plan out the topics on which I shall be writing. They are not in any order, and I shall publish about them in random order according to my wish. Here are the themes that I have decided to turn to the future posts of mine.

  • Opinion of the day
  • Technology Buzz
  • Engineering Know-how
  • DIY's
  • How to's
  • College Life
  • My personal life
  • Experiences of past
  • Quotables
With time I shall be posting each day on any of the above topics and I shall be making some important conclusions at the end of a month. The month's end post will be somewhat a summary of whatever I posted during the entire month's time.

Why this blog?

We talk too much. And talking appears a must for all of us. Why is it with writing that we have to decide that we need to write. We cannot stay dumb for two or three days. Then why is it that we don't feel that much urge for writing.

After much speculation, I have decided that I will write whatever I shall feel like and post it daily on this blog. That's why I have created this blog. This is a blog totally dedicated to myself. It shall with time build into a storage place of my ideas, opinions, feelings and emotions especially those that you are not even able to speak about with the dearest of your friends.

It will like this blog is a friend of mine. A friend to whom I can tell all I want to share. Whom I can teach new things, with whom I can discuss my problems, and later I can revisit these accounts to make any of my future would-be-boring-days nostalgic.

So, I have decided to write. It's in me.
